Jeanerette Man Arrested for Attempted Second-Degree Murder After Stabbing Incident

St. Mary Parish, LA — Sheriff Gary Driskell announced the arrest of Earl Charles, 56, of Jeanerette, in connection with a stabbing that occurred on April 30, 2026.

According to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office (SMPSO), detectives were notified by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office of a reported stabbing at a park in the Jeanerette area. Responding investigators identified Charles as the suspect during the course of their investigation.

The male victim sustained non-life-threatening lacerations to the head and neck and received medical treatment for his injuries. Detectives obtained a warrant for Charles’s arrest later that day.

At approximately 3:23 p.m., SMPSO deputies located and took Charles into custody without incident. He was subsequently transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. Bail has not yet been set.

Sheriff Driskell expressed gratitude to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office for its assistance and cooperation throughout the investigation.
