Houma Woman Charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle

PAINCOURTVILLE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Courtney Elizabeth Murphy, 27, of 322 Grace Street, Houma, LA after deputies responded to a call for assistance from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office contacted the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance to locate a vehicle which had been stolen in the Houma area.

With the assistance of a commercial tracking company, the vehicle was reported to be in the Paincourtville area.

A uniformed patrol deputy observed the vehicle near LA 1 and St. Peter Street and executed a stop of that vehicle.  The deputy made contact with the driver, now identified as Courtney Elizabeth Murphy and initiated an officer / violator interview.  Deputies were able to confirm the vehicle as stolen.

Courtney Elizabeth Murphy was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of:

*Illegal Possession of Stolen Things

*Fugitive Warrant – Terrebonne Parish on a Count of Theft of an Automobile

Courtney Elizabeth Murphy remains incarcerated pending a bond hearing and eventual transfer to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
