Morgan City Police Department Narcotics detectives arrested 24-year-old Bryan Obryson Lawson from Gibson, Louisiana, on January 2, 2024, at 10:27 p.m. Lawson faces multiple charges including possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (Fentanyl), possession of marijuana, aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated obstruction of highway commerce, improper lighting, improper turning, and being a fugitive from Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives first spotted Lawson driving suspiciously in the vicinity of LA 182. His vehicle was seen going to various businesses without him ever leaving the car. Lawson then headed to a hotel near MLK Boulevard, where he made improper turns and had issues with his vehicle’s lighting.
When the detectives tried to initiate a traffic stop, Lawson sped away. He led officers on a high-speed chase eastbound along LA 182 and nearly collided with the Bayou Ramos Bridge during construction work. Lawson recklessly overtook an 18-wheeler before crossing into Assumption and Terrebonne parishes. He finally abandoned his vehicle on Bayou Black Drive and attempted to escape on foot. His car continued moving until it plunged into Bayou Black.
Law enforcement swiftly set up a perimeter and apprehended Lawson shortly afterward. Upon arrest, he was found in possession of Fentanyl. A search of his vehicle also yielded suspected marijuana. In addition to these charges, Lawson had several outstanding arrest warrants from Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Following medical treatment, Lawson was incarcerated at the Morgan City Jail and is currently awaiting trial.
