Fire Responders on Scene of Oil Tank on Fire in Berwick

Berwick Volunteer Fire Department, Berwick Police Department and St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to an oil tank on fire near the Jessie Fontenot Boat Landing on River Road in Berwick on Wednesday afternoon. .

Berwick Fire Chief Allen Rink tells KQKI News that at 1:30 pm, the Berwick Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the area of River Road for a possible oil tank on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters located several fuel tanks, one of which had been struck by lightning and exploded.

Firefighters quickly contained and extinguished the fire before any other tanks were able to ignite and cause further damage. The amount of fuel in the tank is unknown at this time. No one was on scene at the time of the explosion and  no injuries were reported.
