On Monday at approximately 9:50 am, the Berwick Police Department received a call concerning an 18-wheeler striking the clearance beam of the La Hwy 182 bridge on the Berwick side. Officers responded and could not locate the vehicle in the area which had continued traveling eastbound across the bridge.

Approximately one hour later, police began receiving information of the whereabouts of the truck which was located at a local business on Duke St. in Morgan City. Officers from Berwick and Morgan City Police Departments located the truck and made contact with the driver who was identified as Ervin Henning 47, of Eros, LA.

After further investigation, it was determined that Henning was aware that he had struck the beam. However, he continued to travel despite sustaining damage to the tractor trailer.   Henning was cited for Careless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Hit & Run Driving, and Driving under Suspension.

The La Hwy 182 bridge remained open and did not appear to pose a threat to the public. The Department Of Transportation was contacted and will send someone out to inspect the beam for precautionary measures.  Police would like to thank the public for the information which led to the location of the truck.
