KQKI News has confirmed that a victim was injured in a late Saturday afternoon shooting in Assumption Parish, but their injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
According to the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred at Dorseyville Park on Highway 70 East near Paincourtville. Lonnie Cavalier, the Public Information Officer for the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office told KQKI News that there was a large gathering of people at the park at the time of the shooting.
Highway 70 near Highway 1 was closed for some time while the investigation was underway but has since reopened. A major vehicle accident also occurred near the area while the investigation was underway, but no information was immediately available regarding if any injuries were reported.
