MORGAN CITY — During the early morning hours of May 30, 2026, an inmate being held at the Morgan City Police Department experienced a medical emergency while in custody.
Officers immediately responded and, along with emergency medical personnel, initiated life-saving measures. Despite those efforts, the inmate was later pronounced deceased by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
Preliminary information indicates that no foul play is suspected at this time. However, in accordance with department policy and to ensure transparency, the Morgan City Police Department has requested that the Louisiana State Police conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say no additional information is being released at this time. Further details will be provided as they become available and as permitted by the investigative process.
