Authorities in Acadia Parish are asking for the public’s help following the identification of a woman whose body was discovered in a local bayou.

According to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, an investigation began on February 26, 2026, after a body was found in Bayou Queue de Tortue. Officials said the deceased had been in the water for an extended period of time, making immediate identification difficult.

Through DNA testing, investigators later confirmed the woman’s identity as Annie Peter-Lewis, a 43-year-old resident of New Iberia.

Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish is now asking anyone who may have had contact with Peter-Lewis during February 2026, or who may know individuals she was associating with during that time, to come forward with any information that could assist investigators.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Acadia Parish Crime Stoppers at 337-789-TIPS, or submit a tip through the P3 Tips mobile app. All tips can remain anonymous, and information leading to a breakthrough in the investigation could be eligible for a cash reward.
