The Jeanerette Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with gunshots fired during Saturday’s Mardi Gras parade. According to authorities, the incident occurred on February 7, 2026, at approximately 3:21 p.m. Officers took Eric Deion Antoine, 31, of Loreauville, into custody on multiple weapons-related charges.

Antoine faces the following charges:

  • Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities
  • Illegal Carrying of a Firearm at a Parade, with a Firearm Used in the Commission of a Crime
  • Reckless Discharge of a Firearm at a Parade or Demonstration

In addition, Antoine was wanted by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office on a separate charge of Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities.

He was processed and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail, where he remains in custody. Bond has been set at $475,000.

Police Chief Terrance Moore expressed appreciation for the cooperation of partnering law enforcement agencies and said their quick response helped ensure public safety and led to the suspect’s immediate apprehension during the event.
