THIBODAUX, La. — A serious crash Thursday afternoon left two juvenile pedestrians critically injured and several others hospitalized in Lafourche Parish.
Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on January 29, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop C responded to a two-vehicle crash on Talbot Avenue near Meadows Circle.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2013 Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Talbot Avenue and slowed due to traffic congestion. A 2004 Chevrolet Impala was also traveling northbound and approached the slowed traffic. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet moved into the southbound lane in a marked no-passing zone in an attempt to pass vehicles.
As the Chevrolet attempted to merge back into the northbound lane, it lost control and struck the rear of the Honda. After the initial collision, the Chevrolet traveled off the roadway to the right, where it struck two juveniles who were standing off the roadway after being dropped off by a school bus.
Both juveniles suffered serious injuries and were transported to out-of-area hospitals, where they remain hospitalized.
The two occupants of the Chevrolet also sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospitals outside the area. The driver and three passengers in the Honda — including two juveniles — sustained moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Due to the severity of injuries and the need for immediate medical transport of the Chevrolet occupants, Troopers are continuing efforts to determine who was driving the Chevrolet at the time of the crash.
As part of standard procedure in serious injury crashes, toxicology samples were collected from involved parties and are pending analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
