16th Judicial District Attorney M. Michael Haik, III announces that Anthony Mallery, age 40, of New Iberia, was convicted by a unanimous jury of two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The convictions arise from a November 2021 incident in Loreauville. Evidence at trial established that Mallery shot one victim in the face and then fired multiple rounds at his half-brother, who was able to avoid injury by hiding under a residence. Mallery then stole the victims’ truck, fled from law enforcement, crashed the vehicle, and attempted to hide in a cane field. Upon his apprehension, he was found in possession of two firearms.
Mallery was previously convicted in 2019 of Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault, a crime of violence under Louisiana law. Individuals convicted of crimes of violence, drug offenses, sex offenses, or certain domestic violence offenses are prohibited from possessing firearms.
Following a four-day trial, the jury unanimously returned guilty verdicts on all counts.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 9, 2025, before the Honorable Lewis J. Pitman, Jr. The penalty for Attempted First Degree Murder is not less than ten years nor more than fifty years at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. The penalty for Felon in Possession of a Firearm is not less than five years nor more than twenty years at hard labor, also without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office (Lead Detective Jared Spurlock), with assistance from the New Iberia Police Department and the M. Bofill Duhé Acadiana Crime Lab.
