Berwick Police Department Seizes Over 18 Pounds of Marijuana in Traffic Stop

Berwick Police Chief David Leonard and Berwick Police Department have announced the seizure of over 18 pounds of marijuana as a result of a Sunday evening traffic stop.

On Sunday, April 28, 2024 at approximately 6:00 pm, a traffic stop was conducted on Highway 90 after a vehicle was observed speeding 75 mph in a 55 mph zone. Officers made contact with the driver who was identified as 41-year-old Donald Bissant of New Orleans.


While speaking with Bissant, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana that was coming from the vehicle.  Bissant was also reportedly displaying suspicious behaviors consistent with criminal activity.

A search of the vehicle was conducted at which time officers located over 18 pounds of marijuana. During the course of the investigation, it was learned the marijuana was planned to be distributed.


Bissant was placed under arrest and transported to the Berwick Police Department. He was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I CDS Marijuana (Over 2.5 lbs.), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Speeding 75/55 and Driving Under Suspension.
