Franklin, Louisiana – According to V. B. Glencoe Charter School’s Facebook page, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at approximately 3:35 PM, a bus operated by V. B. Glencoe Charter School was involved in a traffic incident on Louisiana Highway 83 and Cypremort Road. Bus 14 (formally bus 4) was in transit when an 18-wheeler sideswiped the bus and continued traveling.

Immediately following the accident, the bus driver demonstrated commendable professionalism and quick thinking by pulling over to the side of the road to check on the passengers and notify the school’s administration. The safety and well-being of our students are always our top priority. Upon notification, V. B. Glencoe Charter School promptly activated its emergency response protocol. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and District 11 Fire Department were swiftly informed and arrived at the scene, along with Acadian Ambulance, Baldwin Fire Department, and Baldwin Police Department. Medical personnel conducted a preliminary check for injuries on the bus, ensuring the safety of all passengers. Subsequently, students were safely disembarked from the affected bus and transferred to a secondary bus for transportation to the Baldwin Civic Center for reunification with their families.

Throughout this challenging situation, the cooperation and understanding demonstrated by our students, bus driver, and parents have been truly remarkable. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their calm demeanor and adherence to safety protocols. Moreover, we commend our dedicated faculty members who volunteered their assistance to ensure the smooth and safe reunification of students with their families. V. B. Glencoe Charter School is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation led by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. For further updates or inquiries related to this incident, please contact Mrs. Loren Decuir, Director, at (337) 923-6900.

Glencoe says they remain committed to the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members.
