UPDATE 11/15/23 10:50a.m.: The Louisiana Department of Health has lifted the Boil Advisory for the Franklin Water System.

The City of Franklin is currently facing disruption in its water system due to numerous main water breaks. Throughout the weekend, these breaks have resulted in reduced pressure and even completely cut off water supply for some residents. As the city deals with these century-old water lines, low pressure is expected to continue during the day. The city officials request patience from residents as they work on repairing and updating the aging water distribution lines.

Water issues also prompted closures of Franklin Jr., High, Franklin Senior High, and Foster schools on Monday. St. Mary Parish President David Hanagriff has also informed KQKI News that the courthouse is closed on Monday.

A Boil Water Advisory has been issued once water service is restored.

The Franklin Mayor’s office said Monday morning that because of the ongoing problems with the water system, the water is of questionable microbiological quality. Therefore, as a precaution, the Water System is issuing a BOIL ADVISORY effective immediately. This BOIL ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Franklin Water System.

It is recommended that all consumers boil their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means: Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. Again, please be sure to boil your water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.

The Franklin Water System will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals – Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.
