Sheriff Tim Soignet of Terrebonne Parish reported the recent apprehension of a Houma man facing charges related to a sexually motivated domestic violence case, following a victim coming forward. The accused, 34-year-old Andrew William Melancon, is charged with First-Degree Rape and Domestic Abuse Battery by Strangulation in connection to the case.
The Sheriff’s Office’s Special Victim’s Unit conducted a thorough investigation of the incident, which was reported on October 26th. They identified Andrew Melancon as the attacker. Detectives interviewed the victim and gathered graphic evidence supporting the allegations against Melancon. After reviewing the evidence collected during the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Melancon, who also had three other outstanding warrants on unrelated charges.
Melancon was arrested at his workplace without any issues and is currently detained at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. He is held on a total bond of $40,700 set by local judges. Meanwhile, the victim is recuperating from minor physical injuries sustained during the assault.
