A motorcyclist who reportedly fled from a Morgan City police officer attempting a traffic stop, lost control of his motorcycle in a Bayou Vista shopping center and taken into custody.
At approximately 2:45 pm, an officer with the Morgan City Police Department was working traffic detail on the Highway 90 bridge when a motorcycle, driven by Joshua DiMaggio of Berwick, was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, DiMaggio fled and continued to travel westbound on Highway 90 as the officer tried to catch up to him. DiMaggio turned into the St. Mary Plaza Shopping Center in Bayou Vista where he crashed the motorcycle. He refused medical treatment and was taken into custody without incident.
DiMaggio was charged with Improper Turn, Resisting by Flight, General Speed Law and No Insurance and Registration. He is being held in the Morgan City Jail.
The Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene due to gasoline leaking from the motorcycle. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the incident
