Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet confirmed an ongoing investigation into a fatal shooting on Vega Court, Gibson, La., Monday night around 8:00pm. Patrol deputies discovered a dead man with a gunshot wound following reports of the incident.

Detectives gathered witness statements, identifying the shooter as Benyamin William Walker, 20, from Gibson. The victim, Corey Michael Friloux, 40, had been arguing with someone when Walker intervened and shot him. Walker fled the scene but later surrendered in Thibodaux and admitted to the shooting.

Walker faces charges of second-degree murder and has unrelated outstanding warrants. He is held at Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a bond surpassing $1 million. Sheriff Soignet expressed sympathy for the affected families and praised his team’s efforts to bring closure.
