In Thibodaux’s Johnson Ridge neighborhood, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet has reported an ongoing investigation into a shooting that happened shortly before 11am yesterday. Deputies arrived on the scene after receiving information about a person shot during a disturbance, and an armed suspect still in the area.
Upon arriving, deputies immediately found and arrested the armed suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Ron Eric Yusef Lewis of Houma, La. They also discovered a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses confirmed that Lewis was responsible for the shooting.
Detectives found out that both individuals had been involved in a verbal altercation which resulted in Rhykeelon Talver, 25, of Patterson, La., being fatally shot inside his vehicle. A family member was informed of Talver’s death.
Further investigation led to Lewis admitting to the shooting during his interview at the Criminal Investigations Bureau. It was also discovered that he possessed a stolen firearm from Lafourche Parish, and as a convicted felon, he was not allowed to own one. Additionally, Lewis had illegal narcotics in his possession at the time of his arrest.
Lewis now faces charges of second-degree murder, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of marijuana. He is currently being held without bond at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.
Sheriff Soignet urged patience and privacy for the families involved while praising the quick response and actions taken by deputies and detectives during this tragic incident.
