Dr. Teresa Bagwell, Superintendent of St. Mary Parish Schools, has released the following statement:
“St. Mary Parish Schools announced the appointment of Dr. Rachael Sanders as Assistant
Superintendent today, a decision that resulted from the upcoming retirement of
Mr. Joseph Stadalis. For the past 32 years, Mr. Stadalis has been a leading educator in
St. Mary Parish Schools given his roles as a physics teacher at Morgan City High School
and principal of J. S. Aucoin Elementary and Morgan City Jr. High School. Additionally, he
held district-level administrative positions as Special Education Compliance Officer and
Secondary Instructional Supervisor before being selected as Assistant Superintendent in
2019. His genuine passion for public education and desire to improve the learning
experience of every student encapsulates his distinguished career.
Beginning on June 1, 2022 a transition period will take place as Dr. Sanders assumes the
Assistant Superintendent role. Like Mr. Stadalis, she has dedicated her entire career in
education to St. Mary Parish Schools. Her education journey began 23 years ago as an
English teacher at Patterson High School, eventually being promoted to assistant principal of Morgan City High School before returning to Patterson High School as principal where she earned the honor of Louisiana State Principal of the Year SemiFinalist in 2016. Her extensive leadership experience also expanded into positions as a Science Program Manager and Supervisor of the Alternative Program. More recently, Dr. Sanders has served as the school system’s Supervisor of High Schools and Vocational Programs.
The dedication and student-oriented vision of both leaders is highly regarded and has
contributed to the ongoing progress of St. Mary Parish Schools.”
