On January 16th 2025 at approximately 10:00am the Houma Police Department responded to a stabbing on Isabel Street.
Upon arrival officers located the victim Joyce Williams 75 years old suffering from stab wounds to her upper body. Life saving measures were attempted by all first responders to include the Houma Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance. Mrs Williams was then transported to a local medical facility for treatment but despite all attempts she was pronounced deceased.
The investigation revealed that there was an altercation that occurred within the home between Mrs Williams and her nephew Gregory Gaither 45 years old. During the altercation, Gaither struck and stabbed the victim multiple times and ultimately caused the death of the victim.
Gaither remained on scene until police arrived and was taken into custody without incident. Gaither has booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for one count of Second-Degree Murder.
