AMELIA – Sheriff Leland Falcon of Assumption Parish announced the arrest of 19-year-old Sam Mykal Rosette from 520 Hilda Street, Morgan City, LA. Rosette faces felony drug charges after a traffic violation turned into a high-speed chase on U.S. 90 early Wednesday evening.
According to the sheriff’s office, a uniformed patrol deputy from the I.C.E. team spotted a vehicle traveling westbound on U.S. 90 committing a traffic infraction. The deputy then attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect driver accelerated and fled. The chase continued into St. Mary Parish where the car eventually stopped, and two occupants ran away on foot. Deputies apprehended the passenger, identified as Sam Mykal Rosette.
Further investigation by deputies and narcotics officers led to the seizure of multiple packages of suspected marijuana.
Rosette was booked into Assumption Parish Detention Center with charges including possession with intent to distribute marijuana and resisting an officer. He is currently in custody awaiting a bond hearing.
Arrest warrants have also been issued for the driver, identified as 23-year-old Colby Tyree Nicholas of 1212 Carmen Street, Patterson, LA. Nicholas faces charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, driving with a suspended license, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, and speeding (84 mph in a 70 mph zone).
