A 1/2 cent sales tax will begin funding pay raises and training for Morgan City firefighters and Police officers after voters overwhelmingly approved the proposition on Saturday.  The tax was passed with 87% of the voters saying yes, with 13% voting no.

Morgan City firefighters and police officers are the lowest paid as compared to other agencies in the area. However, Morgan City Fire Chief Alvin Cockerham and Police Chief Chad Adams said the pay raise will make their departments more competitive with area agencies.
