Local first responders were kept busy Sunday night in Berwick, including fighting a mobile home fire. Berwick Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a mobile home on fire Sunday evening at approximately 8:30 pm. Berwick Police Chief David Leonard Sr. noticed the fire while driving by the mobile home on California Street.  The fire occurred on an already busy Sunday evening for first responders. There was heavy traffic in downtown Berwick due to spectators arriving to watch the 87th Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival fireworks on the riverfront. First responders were redirected to the scene of the fire.

Berwick Police Department, Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance also responded to the scene, although there were no injuries reported. In less than 6 hours later, Berwick and Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Departments were called to provide aid for another major structure fire in Morgan City.

KQKI News spoke with Berwick Fire Chief Allen Rink as crews were preparing to clear the scene.
