New Iberia Police has confirmed that two arrest have been made in the remains found investigation in New Iberia. 23-year-old Xavier Andrews of New Iberia was booked on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery and obstruction of justice on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, New Iberia Police confirmed the arrest of 24-year-old Dwayne Alfred of New Iberia. Alfred was booked on the same charges as Andrews.
The remains were reportedly found as part of a preliminary investigation and could be related to the disappearance of Deja Cummings, who was reported missing on Oct. 18 of last year.
When NIPD received tips on the possible whereabouts of Cummings it led to the discovery of skeletal remains near Cherokee Parkon Sunday.
According to police, the remains will be identified in a few weeks.
