In an early morning altercation, a Morgan City police officer conducted a traffic stop at the M.C. RV Park due to a vehicle having improper lighting. The driver, 63-year-old Marvin Williamson, acted uncooperatively when approached by the officer and attempted to enter a nearby camper trailer. As the officer tried to subdue Marvin, a struggle broke out.
During the struggle, 53-year-old Valerie Williamson exited the trailer and obstructed the arrest by striking the officer. Marvin armed himself with an object in an attempt to strike the officer as well. The two then managed to barricade themselves inside the trailer.
Additional personnel and St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to surround the trailer. Negotiators from both departments attempted to communicate with Marvin and Valerie, urging them to exit peacefully. However, the couple refused and negotiations failed.
Authorities resorted to using chemical agents, which prompted Marvin and Valerie to exit the trailer shortly after. They were taken into custody following a brief struggle and were transported to Morgan City Jail.
Marvin faces charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting an officer with force or violence, improper lighting, and failure-to-appear for arraignment on September 14th, 2023 at the 16th Judicial Court. Valerie’s charges include battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with force or violence, and interfering with law enforcement investigation.
Both individuals await court proceedings at Morgan City Jail.
