Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Fugitive in Assumption Parish

Labadieville – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon announced the arrest of Khalid Asim Coates, 44, of Baton Rouge, on a fugitive warrant from the Baton Rouge City Police Department. The arrest occurred during a traffic stop on LA 398 west of Labadieville on Tuesday evening.

A uniform patrol deputy assigned to the I.C.E. detail observed Coates’ vehicle committing a traffic violation and initiated a stop. During the interaction, the deputy conducted a warrants check and discovered that Coates was wanted on a felony fugitive warrant.

Coates was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on several charges, including:
– Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated – Fourth Offense
– Disregarding Traffic Control Signals
– Driving Under a Suspended Driver’s License
– Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
