Extra Patrols Begin December 12th and Continue Through New Year’s Day
Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue announced that the Thibodaux Police Department will participate in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign beginning December 12, 2025, and continuing through January 1, 2026. The effort, which spans both the Christmas and New Year holidays, is funded by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Using Louisiana Highway Safety grant funding, Thibodaux Police officers will conduct saturation patrols throughout the enforcement period. The goal is to keep families safe as they travel during the busy holiday season.
Chief Zeringue reminds the public that motorists suspected of DWI who refuse a breathalyzer test face serious consequences. A refusal results in a one-year driver’s license suspension for a first offense and a two-year suspension for a second offense. Anyone convicted of DWI while their license is already suspended for a prior DWI will face mandatory jail time.
Lafourche Parish is designated a “No Refusal” parish, meaning officers will seek a search warrant to obtain a blood sample from suspected impaired drivers who refuse a breathalyzer test.
🚨 Safety Tips from Thibodaux Police
Chief Zeringue and the Thibodaux Police Department offer these reminders to help keep the community safe:
Never drive after consuming alcohol, even small amounts.
Be mindful of medications—including tranquilizers, pain medications, sleep aids, antidepressants, cough medicine, antihistamines, and decongestants—that may impair driving.
Plan a safe ride home before attending gatherings.
Avoid walking home impaired; ask a sober friend to arrange a cab or rideshare.
Report impaired drivers in Thibodaux by calling 985-446-5021 or 911.
Chief Zeringue thanked community partners for helping spread awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. “Even one drink can affect your ability to drive safely,” he said. “Together, we can keep Thibodaux safe and a great place to live.”
