LABADIEVILLE — Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Gilberto Hernandez, 38, of League City, Texas, on a felony Driving While Intoxicated (Third Offense) charge following a suspicious vehicle complaint early Saturday morning.

Deputies responded to a local business where they found Hernandez asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle with the engine running and lights activated. Upon making contact, deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Hernandez.

Hernandez performed poorly on field sobriety tests and refused an intoxilyzer test. Deputies later obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, which was collected at a local healthcare facility.

Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. He remains incarcerated on a $100,000 bond and has been ordered to install a SCRAM alcohol monitoring device.
