Raceland, LA – A 15-year-old male, Angel Acevedo from Houma, passed away after being involved in a severe single-car crash on U.S. Highway 90 eastbound, near Louisiana Highway 1, on July 9, 2023. Louisiana State Police Troop C started investigating the incident which happened just before 5 p.m.
Initial findings show that a young driver was behind the wheel of a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling eastbound when the vehicle experienced a rear tire failure for unknown reasons. The driver attempted to regain control by steering to the right but caused the SUV to spin out and veer off the road before flipping over.
The teenage driver had their seatbelt on at the time and sustained moderate injuries. Angel Acevedo, who was seated in the front passenger seat, along with three other juveniles at the back, were not wearing seatbelts. As a result of not being restrained, Acevedo was thrown from the car and sustained critical injuries. The other three passengers experienced moderate injuries as well. All individuals were taken to nearby hospitals in New Orleans for treatment.
Authorities collected a standard toxicology sample from the young driver for analysis. The investigation is still ongoing after receiving news that Angel Acevedo succumbed to his injuries on July 15, 2023.
