MORGAN CITY, La. — The Morgan City Police Department is investigating a stolen vehicle case that resulted in multiple charges and a swift recovery aided by public safety technology.
On January 7, 2026, at approximately 9:15 p.m., officers responded to a complaint regarding a vehicle reported stolen from a local business. The following morning, on January 8, 2026, at approximately 1:39 a.m., officers located the vehicle and observed Alan Granger, 35, of Lee Street in Franklin, driving it. Granger was taken into custody without incident.
Granger was initially arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Things. As the investigation continued, detectives obtained video evidence confirming Granger as the individual who stole the vehicle several hours earlier. He was subsequently booked on additional charges, including Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Criminal Trespassing.
During the booking process at the Morgan City Police Department, Granger attempted to escape custody. Officers quickly apprehended him before he could exit the facility. As a result, he was also charged with Battery of a Correctional Officer, Battery of a Police Officer, and Attempted Simple Escape.
Granger was booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail, where he remains while awaiting court proceedings.
Authorities credit the rapid recovery of the vehicle to continued investments by the City of Morgan City in public safety technology, including FLOCK Safety cameras installed throughout the city. The system assisted investigators in tracking the vehicle as it left and later returned to the area. The department also recognized the vigilance of its Patrol Division for their role in locating the vehicle.
As always, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
