UPDATE:  The St. Mary Parish  911 center had returned to normal operations and is receiving 911 emergency calls.

ORIGINAL STORY: St. Mary 911 has informed KQKI News that their emergency calls are being rerouted to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office due to a power outage at the 911 cemter.  In the event of an emergency, callers can still dial 911. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office dispatcher will connect the caller with the appropriate department or service that will handle the emergency.

The power outage is due to a battery backup that failed and resulted in the smell of smoke in the building. Morgan City Fire Department is on scene to investigate the issue.
