Short Pursuit Leads to Drug Arrest in Jeanerette

On Tuesday, July 12, Jeanerette Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white 2010 Chevrolet Traverse for traffic violations. The vehicle allegedly fled through several city streets before pulling into a driveway in the city limits of Jeanerette.

During the investigation officers reportedly located 104 grams of marijuana, meth and a Keltec .22 caliber handgun inside the vehicle. After further investigation, officers located 23 checks and 11 money orders, all reported to be fraudulent, totaling $94,954.55.

The suspect was identified as 24-year old Cameron Marks of Jeanerette, who ultimately confessed to making and printing the fraudulent checks and money orders. He was placed under arrest for several charges, which include 38 counts of Monetary Instrument Abuse, Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule 1 Drugs, Possession of Schedule 11 Drugs, Aggravated flight, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of CDS, Driving under Suspension, stop sign violations and a warrant for Lafayette Parish. Marks was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
