Shedrick Anthony Powell, 57, a resident of Amelia, LA and native of New Orleans, LA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Ochsner St. Mary.
Visitation will be observed on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the Siracusaville Recreation Center – Gymnasium. Pastor Ron Bias will officiate the services. (All visitors are asked to adhere to the CDC/local regulations by wearing masks and practicing social distancing) 1110 Grace Street Morgan City, LA from 11:00 AM until funeral services at 1:00 PM. A second line service with jazz band and entombment will follow funeral services in the Morgan City Cemetery – Mausoleum Section. Services will be accessible by viewing the Jones Funeral Home, Inc. Facebook Page at 1:00 PM on Saturday April 3, 2021.
Memories of Shedrick will forever remain in the hearts of his loving wife, Khahola S. Hill-Powell of Amelia, LA; four children, Shadrica Drew and Shedrick Drew both of New Orleans, LA and Sy’dre Anna Powell and Sa’miyyah Powell both of Amelia, LA; his mother, Ellis Mae Hanchett and husband, Ben, Sr. of New Orleans, LA; two children he helped to raise, Kieronda Hill of Amelia, LA and Rakenya Smith Orak of Spring, CO; siblings, Jabari Asante, Kim McDowell and Demetrice McDowell all of New Orleans, LA; father-in-law, Anthony Williams of Morgan City, LA; mother-in-law, Minister Sheila Smith of Port Arthur, TX; six uncles, six aunts, and a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Shedrick was preceded in death by his father, Willie McDowell; sister, Kala Powell; maternal grandparents, Wilson Powell and Leother Major and his paternal grandparents, John McDowell and Mary Boss.
