First responders continue search for victims after ‘at least 158 vehicles’ were involved in the crash on the I-55 interstate in St. John the Baptist Parish.
At around 8:45 a.m., a fiery crash on the I-55 in Louisiana involved at least 158 cars, trucks, and tanker trucks in both directions. Seven people have died and dozens more were injured, some critically. Many more are unaccounted for.
It took several hours for first responders to get the blaze under control, but the fire reignited when a hazmat tanker truck began leaking after its driver had pulled over to the shoulder. According to police, the fire could impede their ability to account for all of the people involved in the crash.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash and are asking any witnesses or those with knowledge of the crash to come forward.
