River Bend Jail Escape Prompts Manhunt; St. Mary Parish Connection Confirmed

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. — A massive law enforcement response is underway after six inmates escaped Thursday night from the River Bend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish, authorities confirmed Friday. The East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office said the escape happened late Jan. 29, 2026, prompting a coordinated manhunt involving local, state and regional agencies.

The eight fugitives have been publicly identified as:

·       Destin Brogan, 22

·       Kevin Slaughter, 25

·       Kelin Looney, 21

·       Krisean Salinas, 21

·       Koplelon Vicknair, 19

Located / In Custody

·       Savon Wheeler, 31 – Captured and in custody

·       Hugo Molino, 27 – Captured and in custody

·       Trenton Taplin, 29 – Captured and in custody

Several of the escapees were awaiting trial or facing serious charges at the time of their escape:

Brogan was scheduled for a May 11 trial on a second-degree murder charge tied to a 2022 shooting in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Taplin faced first-degree murder and attempted murder charges connected to a 2020 Plank Road shooting, with his next court date set in April.

Looney had multiple felony cases pending in Lafayette Parish and prior convictions for burglary and property damage in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Vicknair, originally from Mississippi and residing in Lafayette, was connected to a 2023 homicide case and awaiting sentencing on related charges.

One of the escapees, Krisean Salinas, 21, is from St. Mary Parish and has a documented arrest history there, including charges last year related to aggravated flight from an officer, theft, reckless operation, improper lane usage and other vehicle-related offenses. He was also booked on multiple warrants from Morgan City, Terrebonne Parish and Houma.

Law enforcement officials have warned that all fugitives should be considered armed and dangerous. Increased patrols, road checks, and checkpoints are expected throughout East Carroll Parish and neighboring parishes as the search continues. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the escapees’ whereabouts to immediately contact the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office or local law enforcement.
