RACELAND, La. — A Raceland man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after deputies say he fired a handgun at another man during an argument Sunday afternoon.
According to Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Craig Webre, 41-year-old Amos Washington of Raceland was taken into custody on March 1, 2026, following a reported shooting incident on Morristown Road.

Deputies responded to the area shortly after 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance between two men. During the argument, Washington allegedly armed himself with a handgun and fired two shots in the direction of the other man.

Authorities say the victim was not struck by the gunfire and was able to retreat safely inside his residence. Washington reportedly fled the scene before deputies arrived.
A short time later, deputies located Washington and placed him under arrest without incident.

Washington was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on the following charges:

Attempted Second Degree Murder
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

His bail has been set at $300,000.

The investigation remains ongoing.
