Fred Purnell Kenner, aged 37 from Patterson, Louisiana, was taken into custody on the evening of February 20, 2024, at 8:31 PM facing several charges:
- Warrant for Hunts Correctional Center
- Resisting law enforcement
- Holding drug-related equipment
- Control of a schedule II substance
- Unauthorized presence on property or land
- Illegal entry into a lived-in abode
- Breaking drug-free zone laws under the uniform CDS legislation
Kenner, previously incarcerated for possessing heroin with the intention to distribute it, was mistakenly discharged from St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center (SMPLEC) on February 14, 2024.
The oversight was discovered on Tuesday, February 20, when Louisiana Department of Corrections alerted SMPLEC that Kenner had been incorrectly released. It was determined that jail management systems incorrectly showed his release date as February 14, which went unnoticed until after his discharge.
The error led to an arrest warrant for Kenner being issued by the Louisiana Department of Corrections and entered into the NCIC system.
Subsequently, detectives visited a home on Terrebonne Street in Morgan City. Kenner responded to detectives’ arrival but attempted to close the door upon recognizing them; however, detectives managed to enter.
A search warrant was executed after detectives observed crack cocaine within the residence. The search uncovered illegal drugs and related paraphernalia. Furthermore, it was confirmed by MCPD that Kenner had been prohibited from entering this dwelling and had done so without consent.
Kenner was arrested and taken back to St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for processing.
