Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced that one person was killed and two others were injured in three separate shooting incidents reported over a 14-hour span. Investigators say the shootings are not connected, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Fatal Accidental Shooting in Raceland
Around 4 p.m. on November 29, deputies responded to an accidental shooting on Bayou Folse Road in Raceland.
Garret Verdun, 45, of Raceland, was hunting with a friend when a rifle discharged as the two were handling it. Verdun was struck in the head and died from his injury.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is assisting, and investigators say all involved parties are cooperating.
Man Shot in Leg in Thibodaux Domestic Incident
Just after 9 p.m., deputies were called to Headland Drive in Thibodaux where a man in his 20s was shot in the leg. He was treated at a local hospital and later released.
Evidence at the scene indicates the shooting occurred during a domestic incident at a home in the 100 block of Headland Drive. That investigation remains ongoing.
Cut Off Resident Shoots Trespasser Acting Erratically
At 5:35 a.m. on November 30, deputies responded to a shooting on West 72nd Street in Cut Off.
A resident reported that a man was trespassing, behaving erratically, and threw a metal object toward him. The resident fired a single round, striking the man—who is in his 30s—in the arm.
The injured man was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans for further treatment. This incident is still under investigation.
