Norma Marie Pitre Clements, a native of Franklin and longtime resident of Centerville, passed away as the result of an automobile accident at the age of 86 years and 2 months on Friday, June 13, 2025 near Ricohoc, LA.
Norma was born in Franklin on March 20, 1939, the third and last child of Felix Joseph and Ethel Marie Hebert Pitre. Norma can trace both her Pitre and Hebert ancestry back to French Canadian descendants living in Port Royal, Acadie and Nova Scotia from as early as the 1630’s. Her Acadian direct descendants were also aboard the 1785 “Seven Ships” that sailed from France to New Orleans and settled along Bayou Lafourche in south Louisiana. She was a 1957 graduate of Franklin Senior High School. Norma was married to the late Alton Joseph Clements on July 2, 1960 and they made their home in Centerville where she began to raise her family of four children. She worked as a para-professional for the St. Mary Parish School Systems Center of Hope and later worked as a pre-k teacher’s aide at Centerville High School at the time of her retirement.
Norma enjoyed pastimes of going to the casino, traveling, gardening, line dancing, playing Pokeno, completing search-a-word books, and doing puzzles. She also liked to spend time on the swing under her carport watching the cars pass by. She especially enjoyed frequent phone calls with her children and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as MeMe by them.
Norma was preceded in death by her late husband Alton Joseph Clements; her son-in-law, Richard Rivere; her parents, Felix Joseph and Ethel Marie Hebert Pitre; her paternal grandparents, Jules Honore and Olivia Goulas Pitre; her maternal grandparents, Nicholas Joseph and Ella Marie Falterman Hebert; her brother, Darel Pitre; her sister, Dianne Pitre Governale and brother-in-law Frankie James Governale.
She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her four children: Dwayne Clements and his wife Jodikay of Norcross, Georgia, Dana Clements Rivere of Centerville, Deborah Clements Zimmer and her husband Jay of Lafayette, and Darla Clements Ackman and her husband Gus of Centerville. Also left to mourn her loss are nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her special friend and companion, Mr. Wallace Lancon.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville, St. Mary Parish, LA from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery Mausoleum in Centerville. Father James Brady will be the Celebrant for the Mass with Father Oneil Landry concelebrating.
Readers and gift bearers for the Mass will be her granddaughters; Ashley Zimmer David, Kaitlan Rivere, Kimberly Ackman, and Melanie Zimmer.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Anthony Ackman, Christopher Ackman, Grant Zimmer, Jason Zimmer, and Blake Rivere, and her nephew, James Governale.
Ibert’s Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.
