BAYOU L’OURSE – Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon reports the arrest of Joseph H. Gilchrist Sr., 52 of Bayou L’Ourse, LA on charges on Second Degree Murder arising from a shooting incident at the aforementioned address on Sunday afternoon.
Deputies were dispatched to the location and upon arrival, made contact with several individuals who were either present at the time of the shooting or had some knowledge related to the incident.
The deputies located a male subject inside the residence who appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was deceased. The victim was identified as 40-year-old Antanacio Guerrero of Bayou L’Ourse.
Detectives initiated an investigation which consisted of processing the active crime scene and interviewing witnesses.
As a result of the investigation, detectives determined that Antanacio Guerrero, and a mutual friend of his and Gilchrist, entered the home at 111 Elaine Street and engaged in conversation with each other. At some point, Gilchrist reportedly drew a large caliber firearm and began asking questions of Guerrero. Gilchrist then allegedly fired multiple rounds at Guerrero resulting in his death.
Gilchrist was arrested at the scene and later booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of Second Degree Murder.
He remains incarcerated with bond set at $500,000.
