Morgan City Native Appointed as Library Director at Nicholls State University

THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University recently announced Brandy Burbante as the new director of Ellender Memorial Library. Dr. Sue Westbrook, Nicholls provost and vice president for academic affairs, praised Burbante’s strong work ethic and experience in digital technology.

A native of Morgan City, Burbante obtained her undergraduate degree from Nicholls State in English Language Arts Teacher Education and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University. She has served Nicholls for over 11 years in various roles, including library specialist, academic advisor, research librarian, and more.

In 2020, Burbante was awarded the Nicholls State University Woman of Achievement Award. She has been a member of numerous university committees and professional organizations.

“This appointment feels like a full-circle moment,” said Burbante. “My goal as the library director is to be an empowering leader who fosters positive actions, meaningful change, and quality service while providing engaging library experiences for all.”
