Four area fire departments battled a blaze at a house on Sixth Street in Morgan City early Monday morning. Morgan City Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 606 Sixth Street at 2:03 am. The first truck was on scene at 2:08 am and reporting heavy fire and smoke and requested all off duty manpower. Mutual aid was also requested and received from Amelia, Berwick, and Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Departments.
The house sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage throughout the structure. It was being occupied, although it was not an official residence, due to it being under renovations. A neighbor’s two story garage-apartment received fire damage to the apartment, attic, and front room from direct fire contact and radiant heat. Fire damage was contained to those areas on the exposure structure.
There were no injuries reported and the incident is still under investigation. The structure fire was the second major fire that local responders fought in less than 6 hours. Berwick and Bayou Vista Volunteer Fire Departments also battled a mobile home fire in Berwick on a busy evening in downtown Berwick.
