As the 88th annual Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival begins at 5:00 p.m. today, a reminder is being issued to citizens about traffic flows, parking restrictions, and road closures during the event.

No vehicles will be allowed to park near Lawrence Park, and traffic in the vicinity will be limited with the exception of Third Street for vendors and access for local residents. Festival-goers should take note of No On-Street Parking signs around the grounds, as violating vehicles will be towed and ticketed.

Federal Avenue will be closed to traffic between Greenwood Street and Brashear Ave. Patrons should plan alternate routes to avoid congestion in the festival area.

On Sunday at 3:00 p.m., the festival parade will take place and no street parking will be permitted along its route from Second Street to Everett Street and onto Sixth Street, where it concludes at Greenwood Street. Any vehicles parked along the route beforehand will be towed.

The Sunday night fireworks show has been cancelled due to a statewide burn ban implemented by the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office.

Officers will be on duty throughout the festival grounds to ensure everyone’s safety while they enjoy the festivities. If anyone notices suspicious activity, they should promptly report it.
