Sheriff Gary Driskell announces that a juvenile male was retrieved from the Atchafalaya River and is safe.

Shortly after 8:00 pm on Thursday night, October 31, deputies were dispatched to the Highway 90 Bridge over the Atchafalaya River in reference to a male who was hanging onto the fence area of the bridge.

As deputies were arriving the male plunged into the River for unknown reasons and was retrieved from the water by law enforcement personnel. The male, a juvenile, did not appear to be seriously injured in the incident and was subsequently transported to a medical facility as a cautionary measure for evaluation.

Sheriff Gary Driskell would like to thank the Morgan City Police Department and the Berwick Police Department for their assistance.
