UPDATE: The City of Morgan City is clarifying information that was released on Thursday and says there are no planned water service outages. The information was just to inform residents that if an individual resident loses water service due to a leak, the city will respond when it’s safe to do so and at their earliest convenience, however main water breaks in the city’s lines will take precedence to ensure they are providing water service to the entire city.
In a previous statement released on Thursday, the city said, “Due to the anticipated freeze, please be advised that any water service turned off in preparation for or during the freeze will not be turned back on until after the event has passed.
Our crew will be working diligently to service all 5,000 connections. While we will make every effort to restore water service as quickly and safely as possible, please note that water main breaks will take precedence, and there may be delays in responding to individual requests. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.
In accordance with Sec. 110-104 of the municipal code, consumers are responsible for the upkeep of pipes and fixtures beyond the water meter, including taking necessary precautions to prevent freezing and leakage. Specifically, you must ensure that your building is equipped with a shut off valve and drain valves to properly drain all water within the building and avoid damage from freezing temperatures.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
City of Morgan City WSG Department”
