Iberia Parish – Early in the morning of August 7, 2023, just before 3:00 a.m., the Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a single-vehicle accident on Louisiana Highway 182, close to LSU Bridge Road in Jeanerette. Both 51-year-old Robert Curry from Jeanerette and his passenger, 50-year-old Randall Benedietto from Morgan City, lost their lives in the crash.
Preliminary findings from the State Police investigation revealed that Curry was driving his 2004 Chevrolet 2500 Silverado pick-up truck at a high speed going west on LA 182. For unclear reasons, the vehicle veered off the road to the right and collided with a culvert before flipping over.
Neither Curry nor Benedietto were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, leading to both of them being ejected from the truck. The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced them dead at the scene.
A routine toxicology sample has been collected from Curry for further analysis as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
