Police said human remains found in Gibson on February 24, 2021 have been positively identified as 36-year-old Jake Menard of Lafayette.
Sheriff Tim Soignet, of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Menard was reported missing to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in November 2019. A short time later, Morgan City Police Department Detectives began receiving information that Menard was murdered in the Gibson area. It is believed Menard was brought from Morgan City to Gibson to settle an unpaid drug debt.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives began investigating along with the Morgan City Police Department and Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office until Menard’s remains were found in February 2021.
Sheriff Soignet said the investigation was a lengthy one and ended with the apprehension of Seth Lovett, 33, of Morgan City, on one count of First-Degree Murder; Alvin Fitch, 34, of Morgan City, on one count of First-degree murder; Christopher Martin, 34, of Berwick, on one count of First-Degree Murder and Chance Boudreaux, 26, of Morgan City, on one count of Accessory after the Fact to First Degree Murder.
