HOUMA, La. (March 31, 2026) — A Houma police officer has been arrested following an investigation into missing funds tied to an organization affiliated with the Houma Police Department.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of 44-year-old Joseph David Lodrigue of Houma on multiple felony charges stemming from the investigation.

According to authorities, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted on March 30, 2026, after an internal audit conducted by members of the organization revealed financial discrepancies during a recent leadership transition.

Detectives reviewed financial records linked to a Chase Bank account associated with the organization and discovered numerous unauthorized withdrawals totaling more than $38,000. Investigators say the funds were transferred through Zelle to an account connected to Lodrigue.

Authorities confirmed Lodrigue was an active officer with the Houma Police Department and had served as president of the organization for the past two years, as well as treasurer for the previous seven years.
Detectives later located Lodrigue at his residence and brought him in for questioning. During the interview, officials say he was cooperative and admitted to making the unauthorized transactions. Investigators also determined that some of the transfers occurred while Lodrigue was attending a law enforcement conference.

Lodrigue has been charged with:
Felony Theft
Bank Fraud
Malfeasance in Office

He is currently being held at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a no-bond status. A magistrate judge will determine bond during a scheduled hearing.

Sheriff Soignet stated the case highlights the importance of accountability among those in positions of public trust.

The investigation remains ongoing.
