HOUMA, LA – October 13, 2025 — The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Houma man in connection with a shooting that occurred late Friday night.
On October 10, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Hobson Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 47-year-old male lying in the roadway with three gunshot wounds to the back of both legs. Deputies rendered first aid until Acadian Ambulance personnel arrived and transported the victim to University Hospital in New Orleans, where he remains in stable condition.
According to investigators, the victim told deputies he was riding his bicycle along Hobson Street when another man—later identified as Jamel Banks, 38, of Columbus Street—approached on a bicycle. After the two passed each other, Banks allegedly dismounted and opened fire, striking the victim several times before fleeing the scene.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Banks on charges of:
Attempted Second Degree Murder
Illegal Discharge of a Weapon
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
On October 12, 2025, Banks was located and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and booked on the aforementioned charges.
