MORGAN CITY, LA – Congressman Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding a $10 million Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) grant for the Port of Morgan City’s “Western Dock Expansion” project. Funding for the grant is authorized through regular appropriations.
The funding will be used to expand the Port of Morgan City’s dock by adding approximately 1.6 acres of concrete laydown area and building an additional 8,880-square-foot wharf-relieving platform structure to support a 440’ x 40’ wharf extension. It complements “Phase 3A,” which was funded by the Port and the State of Louisiana, and completes all phases of the Port’s “Western Dock Expansion” project.
Congressman Higgins issued the following statement:
“This is a welcome investment for the Port of Morgan City. My office has worked with Port officials since 2017 to advance funding for the dock expansion project, and this grant will bring us to completion. The project will result in increased capacity and greater efficiency for the Port. It will also bring a boost to economic activity for St. Mary Parish. Since coming to Congress, we have delivered over $1 billion for dredging and water management projects in South Louisiana. I will continue to advocate for the needs of our ports and maritime assets.”
